If you are wondering which are the best things to see in Fiera di Primiero and its surroundings and which experiences we recommend to you for your holiday in Primiero you landed in the right page. We in fact collected five things to see and do in the Primiero valley.
The beautiful Primiero valley is located in eastern Trentino, at the foot of the most scenic mountains of the Dolomites: the Pale di San Martino. In this territory, nature donates above all silence, fresh air and breathtaking views, alongside unforgettable experiences like the ones listed on this page.
Our hotel is located at the gateway to one of the most gorgeous valleys in all the Alps: the Val Canali. An enchanted place among pastures, forests, and ancient medieval ruins, here you can have a walk near the Welsperg Pond, visit the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park visitor center at Villa Welsperg, or push higher up to the Canali “Treviso” hut, a starting point for hikes and via ferratas on the southern side of the Pale di San Martino. Towering above you, along with the high peaks, are the ancient ruins of Castel Pietra, standing at the top of an erratic rock in the heart of the valley.

The undisputed main character of the Primiero Valley is undoubtedly Mother Nature. However, to spend a different day, one can go on to one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy: Mezzano. Getting lost in the maze of “canisele,” the narrow streets typical of this village, you can visit the open-air exhibition “Cataste e Canzei,” a series of art installations made from firewood, as well as many points of interest to discover local history. During the good season, cows return to pasture and the Malghe begin to live again. Today, these beautiful mountain houses become typical restaurants, where the quality of the products and raw materials allow for a mouthwatering immersion in Primiero’s gastronomic culture. You will be able to try authentic typical dishes like polenta with “Tosela”, a fresh cheese unique to this area which is served cooked in a pan with butter until it’s crispy on the outside, or “canederli”, the typical bread dumplings, reminiscent of the Tyrolean past of this valley. And don’t forget to finish your meal with a good slice of apple strudel!
Arguably one of the most photographed scenery is that of the beautiful Calaita Lake, which is located in the valley next to Primiero, the Vanoi Valley. Easily accessible by car, bus, or on foot via numerous trails, this alpine lake offers one of the most stunning views of the Cimon della Pala mountain, as well as several walks such as the hike to Malga Grugola. And if you’d like some tasty specialties or desserts, on the lakeshore you will find the Rifugio Miralago.
These are just a few proposals we have selected for you. We always remain available to give you advice on the best walks and activities to enjoy in our area. For those who want to plan their vacation from home already, find below some useful links:
